Welcome to the Teranga Tribune, a multimedia magazine at the intersection of: raising insightful, curious and multilingual global citizens; empowering people in the Global South to provide for their families and achieve their dreams; storytelling involving cultural immersion and adventures in exotic locales; and sharing beauty, inspiration and lessons gleaned along the way.
‘Teranga’ is the Wolof word for the spirit of generosity, exchange and openness towards others that is a defining cultural value of Senegal, West Africa. Having lived in Senegal, where I learned Wolof and conducted sociolinguistics research, I fell in love with this attitude of sincere respect for our common humanity. The concept that there is no “other” has guided my travel adventures, development work and parenting ever since.
